Taking your first spray
Before taking your first spray, you should spend a little time getting used to the vials’ spray pump.
Find out how firmly you need to press the nozzle to release a spray.
Before you use Sativex for the first time, practise by spraying Sativex onto a tissue. (See the next section for instructions on how to 'prime' the vial.)
To take a spray, follow these steps:
- Point the nozzle into your mouth – either under your tongue or at the inside of your cheek
- Press down firmly on the nozzle
- Regularly change the place in your mouth where you spray Sativex. Don’t always spray Sativex in the same place in your mouth. With each spray, direct the nozzle at a different area of your mouth. This will help reduce the risk of irritation.
- Remember: You should always assume that you have had a full spray, even if you’re not sure that you’ve pressed the nozzle down fully
NOTE: Sativex spray is not intended for inhalation. Do not breathe it in when taking your dose.
